Walking and Cycling

This is our preferred method for students and locals community members. Access to the sports centre is via the pedestrian entrance from the Iffley Road (almost opposite Marston Street) Pederstrians have priority on this route but considerate cyclists are permitted. Cycle racks are located adjacent to the athletics track (accessed via the pool footpath) and the area of the carpark nearest reception. Please make sure you lock your bike securely (D-Lock is recommended), only to cycle racks and not site handrails and barriers. An alternative walking route is available down Jackdaw Lane, which is off the Iffley Road.

Train

The nearest train station is Oxford. Iffley Road Sports Centre is a 30 minute walk from the train station or utilise the bus directions below.

Bus

Buses run regularly along Iffley Road (No. 3), and nearby Cowley Road (1, 5, 10, 12) and to St. Clement’s (X13, 4A, Oxford Tube, X90) which are all within walking distance. The most convenient bus is the Stagecoach 3 or N3 bus which runs between the city centre and Iffley Road. Get off at the James Street stop on Iffley Road and walk down to us. Visitors travelling from London may like to use the Oxford Tube or catch the bus from the train station. From the train station, catch either the 4A, 4B or 4C bus from the Frideswide Square stop to travel in the direction of Rose Hill. Disembark at the James Street stop on Iffley Road or Cowley Road.

Keep an eye out for the ‘single lane’ right turn into Iffley Road Sports Centre (the second right hand turn – after Bannister close).

Parking

Due to very limited space, parking is for sports centre users only, and this is checked via either permit or validating your vehicle registration at sports centre reception. Visitors can validate their parking for each visit at reception for stays of up to 4 hours, for legitimate longer one-off stays (e.g. events) please speak to our reception team in advance. Paid permits are possible for sports department staff members, club coaches and staff / community sports centre members who regularly need to park for more than the 4 hour limit. Once a permit is paid and approved registration validation per visit is no longer needed. Fines will be issued automatically via automatic number place recognition (ANPR) for invalid parking e.g. anyone who does not have a permit, validate their parking or overstays the 4 hour limit without approved. The limited carparking can accommodate approximately 50 vehicles. 3 additional spaces are reserved for disabled blue badge holders. For further details and FAQs please download our mobile application.

There is no access for coaches and minibuses, nor space for turning around/dropping-off on Jackdaw Lane. Coach and minibus drivers must drop-off on Iffley Road and park at the dedicated council coach parking provision at:
